THE HOTEL AND CATERING PROGRAMME
The Hotel and Catering programme at Stenforsaskolan is a 3-year upper secondary school course with 18 Students in each class.
The first year: Students study full-time and read both core and formative subjects. The formative subjects are reading and training that takes place at restaurant TRANAN, Sibbhult. Here the Students run their own school- restaurant with a la Carte menus and these come in contact with both Guests and co-workers, this is an important aspect in their development. We consider their service mindedness to be of vital importance in the restaurant branch.
The second year
: The students do their first work experience and come in contact with Hotels and Restaurants outside of school and restaurant TRANAN. There are two work experience periods of five weeks. The students have a supervisor in both cooking and serving on tables, during opening hours at their place of work.
The third year
: The students spend a time of 5 month as a Trainee in a hotel or restaurant. In this way, the students get the opportunity to gain experience in top hotels and restaurant in Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, England and France. Some traineeships even take place outside Europe. Because of their all-round capabilities, graduates of this course can be employed in any department of a large, medium or small size hotel or restaurant.
The school´s internship mentors take care of counselling the interns and evaluating internship reports.
The students are used to the idea that teamwork and professionalism are extremely important. They realise, however, that knowledge of foreign languages is a part of the requirements: it is hospitality that counts. In this way, they acquire an extremely solid basis for their future profession.
We pay great attention to the language of hospitality their students are perfectly capable of making Guests feel at home.
